Whew! The dance has come and gone. A good time was had by all and my stress

level is considerably lower. We had our winter formal this past Saturday night. The theme for decorations was Arabian Nights. We had a tent opening as you came into the school. In the atrium, the dance floor, we draped black cloth around the banister and placed votive candles underneath. Tinkle lights lit the trees around the dance floor. Above the dance floor two cloths were draped forming a tent (it was much prettier than the picture). In the canteen games and food were available. We also set up an area for photos.
We had a hard time tearing the boys away from the games to dance. We had several timid young men who had just learned to dance. We offered dance lessons again this year in anticipation of the dance. Dr. & Mrs. Robinson reviewed the waltz, two-step and jitterbug. They taught us some new spins and a new step, the foxtrot. A good many of our students also know how to swing dance thanks to our swing club. We have some students who could be the next Fred and Ginger! The guys were also really good about asking all the girls to dance. There are no wallflowers at Oasis.

Kari & Kaiti spent the night with us Friday. Their mom is out of town and they missed the girls’ night earlier this year. We made pizza and watched “West Side Story”. The next day we all went with Huda to the kauför (hairdresser) to get our hair done. That itself was an interesting trip. As we were waiting for our turn I could have sworn that I heard Warren Barfield’s “Mistaken”, a Christian song. I knew that was crazy, but the next song was Christian too. Kari then pointed out the same thing. It was funny, in their effort to find a radio station that came in clear or had English songs, they landed on the one Christian radio station in Ankara.
Everyone seemed to have a really good time at the dance. The kids looked great. One teacher pointed out how nice they looked especially compared to the day before that had been a dress-down day at school. It really was lots of fun. And the best part was I got home by 10:00. It took two and half hours to decorate for the dance, but only 30 minutes to return everything to its rightful place. Be sure the check out all the pictures on my photobucket site.
