Praha

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. I just returned from holiday in Prague with Jenna. We had a wonderful time. The weather was great and it was so nice to see mountains and a true fall splendor of colors. Plus they had ham and Mountain Dew!

Prague has a population of 1.2 million. The Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakisa till 1993) is divided into three regions: Bohemia (location of Prague), Morvia and Silesia. Czechoslovakia was a communist country (under Soviet control) until the Velvet Revolution in 1989 (called velvet because no one died). There are 153 churches in Prague, you see steeples all throughout the town. Traffic is a problem. Under communism each family only had 1 car, now almost everyone over the age of 16 has a car, and the roads have not been expanded to compensate for this growth. Beer is actually cheaper than water. It's one of the main products of the Czech Republic and their most popular drink.

The Valta River, in the picture behind me, runs through Prague and empties into the Elbe River. In the distance you see St. Vitus Cathedral in the Prague castle complex. We saw many things during our five days in Prague. We took two day trips, one to Konopiste Castle and another to Terezin. In Prague we visited the Jewish Quarter, Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square, and Prague Castle. Just walking around Prague was a real treat. Espically after we got lost several times the first day!

I've loaded the majority of my pictures on my photobucket account. I'll also post specific blogs about the different places we visited in the next couple of days.
