The Rest of the 7 Churches Tour

Pamukkale, which means cotton castle, is not one of the seven churches of Revelation. It is a geographic wonder. Mineral springs flow up and form calcium bicarbonate travertines. They are very cool looking. The water is warm and you can walk out onto the travertines. Pamukkale was the end of a three mile hike down through Hierapolis which has a huge ancient cemetery and other amazing Greek and Roman ruins. At our hotel the night before we got to soak in a geothermal pool. A very neat place to visit.

Sardis by far is one of my favorite places to visit. The temple to Artemis in Sardis is the 5th largest in the ancient world, the 3rd largest in Turkey. Here is Courtney hugging a column, you can kind of get the idea of just how big they are. Here is the family in front of the reconstructed Roman gymnasium. American archaeologists rebuilt the gym.

We also visited Pergamum, Asklepios, Philadelphia, & Thyateria. You can check out more pictures from our travels below.
