Beypazarı

This past Saturday I (along with three great friends) went to a village town that is about an hour and a half outside of Ankara. We traveled near downtown to pick up a bus that took us to the village of Beypazarı. It only cost 5 lira for the bus ride (that is about $3.50).

Beypazarı is famous for its textiles and silver. They also produce 60% of Turkey's carrots! They have the old Ottoman style homes as well. Rachel had the very healthy carrot juice, while I adopted for the super tasty mulberry juice. We enjoyed walking around town. We shopped and tasted fruits and nuts and took in the scenery.
Jenna & I had for lunch a traditional Beypazarı dish, which was rice and meat. It was tasty.

For desert we had tea and baklava. Beypazarı's baklava has more layers of pastry, less butter and is not quite as sweet. It tastes a little more like Greek baklava.

The women of this village dress in a different style. They wear the traditional village pants they are much loser than regular pants. They cover their head, as most village women do, but their style is different. If you notice in the picture below, the scarf hangs down the back and is fastened under the chin.
